Ridin' the Storm Out

Considering we were without power for 97 hours maybe my title should be "In the Dark", I think ridin' the Storm Out sounds a bit more positive.

I have not posted or scrapped or even made a card since last week.  On Friday July 1, a large severe thunderstorm rolled through much of Minnesota leaving quite a mess behind.  Our family is quite lucky as most of our damage was minor.  We lost about 25% of the shingle on our house, we have roughly 12 holes in our siding from hail, my Mountaineer has a broken window, mirror and a few dents, and we had many MANY limbs and trees down.  And as I said before No Power.  We live on a farm and as some may know no power = no running water.  Which is actually worse than no power.  Please pray for those in the area who lost buildings, roofs, and homes.  In those prayers, also thank the Lord that no one was seriously injured.

Although I don't have a card to share I would like to let you know there is a Blog Hop going on.  The authors and contributing artists of Copic Coloring Guide have put together a Blog Hop...with prizes.  If you are addicted to Copics, if you are curious about Copics, if you are looking for inspiration...this is THE Book for you!!  I had the pleasure of taking a class with two of the contributing artists Lori Craig and Debbie Olson at Scrapbooks Too.  I learned so much in a short time and I had a BLAST!!  So head on over to Jennie Black's Blog and check out this Blog Hop.  There's Prizes!!!

Hop To It

It's a hot sticky day here in Minnesota!!  I would much rather be at home being crafty, but I have to be at work.   It is kinda slow right now so I was blurfing and I came across a blog hop.  These are so much fun, inspiration PLUS a chance to win goodies!!!  I guess it makes up for being at work.  The blog hop is showcasing Inky Antics Stamps and CarlaCraft Binding System.  I LOVE Inky Antics stamps!!  Their HoneyPop collection is so much fun!!!  If you're looking for a cool way to beat the heat, be inspired and have a chance to win cool stuff check out Keri's Blog.  Happy Hopping!!

Nothin Gonna Break My Stride

I am off and running crafting.  Yesterday was Day 1 of Summer Card Camp 2011.   Every Monday we are given the "Weekly Color Combination" and shown cards from the "Camp Counselors", Jennifer and Kristina.  I downloaded the yesterday's PDF, and then it was out the door.  I met up with some friends to plan our "Stamp Camp" nights for the next 12 months.  Tonight I got home and got straight to work on making a card using this week's color combination which is:

Pink, Purple, Orange, Sky Blue and White

I will give you a minute to wrap your head around that.  I have to admit I was in a bit of a panic.  That is too many colors for me.  But I was up for the challenge.  This is the card I came up with:

I can see will have to work on my picture taking skills also. The fish is from Unity Stamps, it is stamped with Stampin'Up Purely Pomegranate on Only Orange card stock.  I used Stampin' Up glossy white card stock and stamped the sun with Yo Yo Yellow, the waves (CTMH 'On the Beach') with Brilliant Blue and the bubbles (Stampendous 'Changito Bubbles',just the bubbles not the monkeys) with VersaMark, then I embossed with Ranger Embossing Powder 'Holographic'.  the embossing powder sticks even though I used 'classic inks' because they are stamped on glossy card stock.  Then I used a brayer and rolled Soft Sky, Baja Breeze and Pacific Point to create the background.  I outlined my fish with Sakura Jelly Roll pen in 'Clear Star'.  I finished the card with Pink Passion card stock on a white base.  The inside sentiment reads "If love were water I'd give you the ocean", also from Unity Stamps.

Although I was challenged by the color combination and the number of colors I had to use, this is the first card I have created and made in less than one hour.  I tend to obsess over the details. I have decided that is one thing I would REALLY like to achieve during Summer Camp.  I would like to be able to consistently create and finish a card in less than one hour.

I am now off to download today's files....it's Technique Tuesday!!!
